The dispersion of radioactive elements in the environmental matrix usually occurs with the release of a cloud of radioactive material followed by the relapse (fallout) on the ground, water or urban environment and then the contamination of plants and the food chain. In the cases of a nuclear and radiological emergency it is therefore possible to highlight three phases: Early phase; Consequence Management; Recovery Phase.
The civil and military monitoring procedures are mostly identical starting from the instrumentation used to carry out surveillance and monitoring, therefore it is therefore essential to implement the synergy, still in force, between military and civilian operators in the
radiological and/or nuclear emergencies, standardizing as much as possible the procedures for action.
